HISTOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE SALIVARY GLAND

Abstract
The author has studied histochemically on 38 cases of Salivary gland tumor (Pleomorphic adenoma (Mixed tumor) 23 cases, Mucoepidermoid carcinoma 8 cases and Adenocarcinoma 7 cases) in Korean.
The results are as follows:
1. Pleomorphic adenoma (Mixed tumor) was characterized by a broad range of histologic patterns of glandular epithelium and connective tissue, and with Van Gieson¢¥s stain, the mucous material were stained pinkish.
2. Mucoid stroma in Pleomorphic adenoma was demonstrated the presence of mucopolysaccharide material and duct like structure was shown intensely P. A. S. reaction within
the cystic spaces and at the margins of the epithelial lining of the spaces.
3. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma was characterized by squamous epithelium covered with mucocystic cell layer and mitotic figures were common.
4. Mucin and gland like structure in¢¥ Mucoepidermoid carcinoma was reacted intensely with P. A. S. reaction and Mucicarmine.
5. Adenocarcinoma was composed of small cells with little cytoplasm and dark staining nuclei closely arranged arround a cylinder-shaped or cribriform structure.
6. Mucin, hyalin or mucohyaline material in Adenocarcinoma was reacted intensely with P. A. S. reaction and Mucicarmine stain.
